The movie is set in New Orleans and the princess is Tiana of the bayou. The movie will also mark a return to traditional, hand-drawn animation from the creators of such stunners as Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
I'm happy and excited to see it, but I'm more interested in the minefield surrounding it. Will she be black enough? Will she be too stereotypically black? Will she be far too unreachable for little black girls? Will she be mired in too much board-room red-tape to be magical?
I dunno. But the love-sick, toothless Cajun firefly is a bit odd.
