Should You Have the Right to Put Your Kid on TV?
Denise Richards made the TV talk show rounds last week to promote her new reality show, and she faced a bit of criticism for having her two small daughters on camera with her. Sure, they're "her" kids, but children don't belong to their mother the way a sofa does--should parents really be able to exploit/feature their babies this way? I generally assume any government institution will end up committing absurdities equal to, if not surpassing, its most obnoxious citizens. But seeing Denise Richards toss her hair and shrug off the suggestion that reality TV might not be a good parenting choice for her daughters makes me wonder. Do you think something like a guardian ad litem should be appointed before children are thrown into the reality TV mill?

She may not really "own" the kids, but do we really want the goverment to "own" them?
Really, is this much different than stage-moms pushing their kids into American Idol Camp or baby beauty pageants? I'm just as grossed out as the next Mom who doesn't pimp out her kids for personal glory, I'm just saying it's not new.
I think the kids are young enough that it isn't going to affect them much. And it's not like many people are going to watch the show anyway.
