Eating Trashy

Eating Trashy

When the cat's away......

Last night the hub grabbed a bite to eat at a local fast food establishment before picking the kiddo up from school because he was going fishing that evening leaving the T and I to fend for ourselves. After hub left, I looked at T and said, " What should we have for dinner?" I think that his participation in choosing the meals helps him want to eat it. "Breakfast!" he exclaimed.

This has been a treat that he and I indulge in when dad is off on fishing or hunting trips. We eat healthy for most of the nights and have Breakfast for dinner one night. We call it Eating Trashy.

Last night, not wanting the typical bowl of cereal, we headed down a path from my childhood and make crepes! My mom used to make these and now I understand why we did them for dinner. Easy, cheap and delicious. Now, we didn't do the savory crepes like ham, chives etc. we went straight for the Peanut butter, nutello and banana crepes. I wondered about our nutritional intake for that meal but didn't really worry too much as my T is an odd child who loves broccoli, shrimp, trout, salmon and even spinich. He gets enough of the nutrients other times. Plus, we had fun! No Stress, easy clean up ( we ate with our fingers) What a story he will tell about the times that dad was away and he and mom "Ate trashy".

Wow, can I eat dinner with you guys? I think a nutrient-free dinner is a must weekly occurrence. Unfortunately, my kids will tell you that it was probably far more frequent than I'd like to admit.

I tried to explain to them that Mommy's dinner of mojitos was very nutritious because of the green limes and mint, but I'm not sure they bought it.

Why is eating BRINNER trashy? You got protein with the eggs in the crepe and the peant butter, a nice load of potassium with the banana and we all know that Nutella is really what keeps the Germans so smart, right?

Actually, I'm pretty sure Nutella is what keeps Italians smart. Beer is what keeps Germans smart. We have yet to find out what keeps Germans within their own borders.

Stephanie - RIGHT! Nutella is the spread of the Deutsch! I'm not sure what makes italians tick.... vino and pasta?!

BRINNER is "trashy" in our house because hub is a meat and potatoes guy who could never fathom deviating from the tried and true way his momma cooked. Maybe it's the red-neck in him. :) That's another post in and of itself.
